I don’t enter lots of competitions but the WPJA is one I have always entered for several reasons. I think the first reason is it not solely judged by other wedding photographers but more non “wedding” photographers. There are some excellent organisations around but it is well knows that placing in the WPJA is harder than any of them and they receive more entries than any other. It is always a great thrill to get placed but until now I have never had a first place and a Gold Star! being placed is great I nearly fell of my balcong in India when I saw this image had won. I don’t usually shoot any “bridal portraits” per say but very glad I did on this occasion and plan to much more in the future.

The results of the WPJA latest competition were released recently and with only 200 places out of over 15.000 entires I am seriously chuffed to get 3 placements!

There are many organizations around these days but for me the WPJA is the standout. It has been around much longer than any of the other organizations and by not charging photographers to enter images they often receive upto 60.000 images per contest. I have now had 9 images places over the past few years and very proud to have had 3 in the last contest which has moved my ranking to number 1 for Spain. if you get chance take a look at some of the exceptional images in the last contest. I am delighted to announce my new website or blog site call it what you will. The new destination wedding photographer Website was designed by Ross and those super talented people over at Flosites and I really cannot thanks them enough. When we launched the new blog over 6 months ago the plan was always to follow up with the same look throughout the Blog and Website.

The reason for the change was really to have complete continuity throughout the branding and huge thanks to Lara Casey for all her help. With the website and blog linked together it is easier than ever to view lots of images from my wedding portfolios on the site or any blog posts. You will also notice the site works like a dream on ipads and iphones which is great.

The winners for the 2010 WPJA Q4 were announced today and with over 24,000 entries it was great to get a couple of winners if you get a chance please take a look at some of the other amazing images from some incredible photographers.

When you hire an ISPWP photographer, you are hiring with confidence because every member has met our high standards for membership:

Experience
Members must have shot at LEAST 50 weddings as a lead or solo wedding photographer. Many of our members have shot hundreds of weddings. Some of our members are Pulitzer Prize winners and finalists. Some of them serve as teachers and mentors for new wedding photographers. All of them are market leaders and are have been dedicated to their craft for years. Wedding photography is not a field where you want your photographer to be learning on-the-job. When you hire an ISPWP photographer, you know you’re hiring the solid experience of a true professional who has delivered quality results week after week, year after year.

Talent
Members must have their website and online portfolio reviewed and approved by a committee of ISPWP members. We look at representative samples from at least three weddings to get a sense of how a photographer sees, thinks, and captures the events of the whole day. As wedding photographers, we look at wedding pictures every day. Most of us are involved in online communities of photographers so we are exposed to thousands of professional wedding photos every year. When a photographer is accepted into the ISPWP, you can be sure they have received a seal of approval from their fellow wedding photographers.

Integrity
Members must have no active complaints with the Better Business Bureau or other consumer protection organization. Sometimes experience and talent don’t necessarily mean that someone follows good busines practices and customer service. Every ISPWP member has a stellar record of providing reliable and trustworthy service to their clients.

Professionalism
Members must operate under the strict ISPWP Code of Conduct. This provides protection for both the client and the photographer. It also ensures that ISPWP photographers operate their businesses with accepted industry practices.

References
Members must provide at least 2 client references and 2 wedding photographer references, or have an ISPWP Sponsor. This ensures that all members have the respect and recognition from their peers in the community.
The fact of the matter is anyone with a camera can call themselves a wedding photographer. But we believe that some clients care enough about their wedding photography to hire a true professional. Someone who has paid their dues and been tested year after year with everything the wedding industry can throw at them. We believe down to our core that wedding photography provides a vital, important function within the family structure and history, and we are dedicated to creating wedding images your family will treasure for generations.
