Portrait session Marbella. Some couples make it easy. From the moment Nikhil and Mona arrived in the old town of Marbella, it was clear this was going to be one of those sessions , the kind where you barely have to direct, where the connection between two people does all the work for you. They laughed easily, moved naturally together, and had that rare quality of being completely present with each other, even in the middle of a busy street.

We met in the late afternoon, when the light in Marbella does what it does best , turning every whitewashed wall golden and casting long shadows through the narrow lanes of the casco antiguo. We wandered without a strict plan, which is always my favourite way to shoot. A quiet plaza here, a bougainvillea-draped doorway there, a glimpse of the sea between the rooftops. Marbella’s old town has this wonderful way of making you feel like you’ve stepped out of time, and Nikhil and Mona fell right into its rhythm.

Mona had mentioned beforehand that she wasn’t sure how she’d feel in front of the camera. It’s something I hear a lot, and it’s always the same — within ten minutes, people forget the camera is there. By the time we’d walked the first few streets together, she and Nikhil were just themselves: talking, laughing, occasionally stopping to take in the view with that quiet, comfortable ease that only comes from truly knowing someone.

That ease is something you can’t manufacture, and it’s what makes portrait sessions like this one so special to document. These images aren’t just beautiful photographs — they’re a record of who Nikhil and Mona are right now, in this particular chapter of their story. The excitement of an engagement, the anticipation of what’s coming, the deep familiarity of a couple who already feel like home to each other.

And what is coming is quite something. In October, Nikhil and Mona will be married at Finca La Concepción — one of the most stunning venues the Costa del Sol has to offer. Set within magnificent botanical gardens, the finca is the kind of place that feels both grand and deeply romantic, where century-old trees frame the light in extraordinary ways and every corner offers something beautiful. I cannot wait to photograph their wedding day there. A venue like that, a couple like this, it’s going to be something very special celebration, one we cannot wait to document..

Sessions like this one, in the months before the wedding,

are something I always encourage couples to do, not just for the photographs, but for the experience itself. It’s a chance to get comfortable in front of the camera before the big day, to shake off any nerves, and to have a set of images from this particular moment: engaged, in love, and on the edge of something wonderful. By the time we part ways at the end of a portrait session, most couples tell me they’re actually looking forward to being photographed on their wedding day. That’s the point.

Marbella treated us beautifully that evening. The light held long enough for us to explore, the streets were quiet in the way they only are in the early season, and Nikhil and Mona were, quite simply, wonderful to spend an afternoon with.

October cannot come soon enough.
